In the past few weeks, I had a self-reflection every once a week for a month where I repeatedly asked myself about random things, but specifically, about things I treasured the most in life.

It is given that God, my family, closest relatives, friends, and my pet; my treasures that can't be taken away, are on the list. But aside from these, I also realized that our capability to remember things that happened in our past, which we called "memories" is also a gift that we need to treasure.
Last month, I watched a K-Drama called Reply 1988 which is also available on Netflix. This is one of the highest top-rating dramas in Korea not only because there's a lot of Oppa in this drama, but also because of the story and how the production executes the story they want to show.

The title obviously explains that the drama's setting is way back in 1988 (the time I wasn't even born but hoping I was to get a chance to experience those old times). It gained popularity because lots of Korean adults who were born in the year 1988 or close to can relate to the main theme of the drama. I will not go through the story because I don't want to be a spoiler (I hate spoilers).
The most interesting thing about this drama is the fact that it can give you a wholesome experience mainly because it shows the concept of friendships, relationships, family, and most importantly, your youth and childhood. Reply 1988 will give you reasons to feel nostalgic which may lead you to reminisce about your youth, as well as your childhood. Considering that it can make a way for you to randomly remember your youth makes this drama a masterpiece and it will give us reasons to treasure our childhood and our youth. Of course, everything that is made with a reference to the past will not be successful if we don't have memories of it. Imagine how wonderful and powerful memories are. It can produce a masterpiece.
Being able to remember the past is such an amazing gift! We may not literally go back to those times when we want to, but we have memories in our minds that we can always look back and remember how happy we are at that specific time.
There are times that I reminisce about my childhood. It was really fun and memorable! There are a lot of funny stories that I want to share:
When I was 8 or 9, I and my childhood friends love to play in the rain, especially if it was a heavy one because later on, the streets will be flooded, so it will be more fun! I remember the first day I played in the rain. It was raining heavily that noon and my friends asked me to play with them outside. I asked my dad if I can go but he kindly told me that I'm not allowed because I have a very weak immune system when I was a child. That makes me feel sad and envious because I'm seeing my friends having fun, playing outside while raining. After a few minutes, the rain stopped and my friends went back to their homes to wash and after a few minutes then, the rain poured again. This time, my dad was sleeping and while he was snoring, I sneaked out and run to play outside while raining. It's really fun! I was happy back then because that is my first time playing while raining, but the saddest part is when I tried to call my friends to play with me but they are not allowed anymore because they already played earlier. I was happy that time but sad at the same time because I'm the only one playing outside.
Another story:
Me and my friends had a group name we called "Angelz" (I'm literally smiling from ear to ear while I'm writing this because I'm starting to remember those times AGAIN). We are four in the group (Nicole, Veronica, Neve [who is now in heaven and our guardian angel], and Me). I remember those times when we a have free time, we will go to Veronica's house to practice. Why? Because every year, we are doing our Annual Christmas Party! Yes, there are only four of us but the funny thing is that we are inviting our friends from the neighborhood, some of Nicole and Neve's cousins (Nicole and Neve are sisters). One reason that I'm proud is the fact that we give the effort to make our party possible. We always do planning about the food that we will make on that day, the songs that we will sing, the steps that we need to memorize for a dance number, and most importantly, the gifts we planned to give to one another since Christmas is the season of giving! And fortunately, every year that we had a party, lots of people are going to see our program.
These are only a few of my treasured memories :)
The fact that I can remember these things is a gift. Every time I remember those good times makes me feel that it is raw, that it happened just only yesterday.
Memories are meant to be there - they should be there and we must be thankful that we have this kind of treasure because it has power - and we must be grateful for it that it needs to be treasured!
Thank you for reading! Keep exploring! :)
